Astoria again

Spent the day in Astoria and touring underground bunkers and hearing stories.

It was a good way to spend Memorial Weekend, I highly recommend going to Fort Stevens and doing the underground bunker tour. I learned a lot about American history, Oregonian history, and about Moses, a buffalo soldier stationed at Fort Stevens.

We went to Fort George for dinner, and took walks through Astoria. I love walking through towns.

I had Fort Stevens on the list the last time we were out there, pretty much to see the shipwreck again. I had no idea about the bunkers! That would have definitely raised it higher on the list. Oh well, guess we’ll have to come out again…

Absolutely! If it hadn’t been raining, we’d’ve gone to the Peter Iredale as well. If you want to see what it looked like in the 70s, here’s my sister and I!

Definitely worth doing the bunker tour, and I’d like to go back and camp there to be able to do the other military sites. One of the families on my tour biked in from their campsite, and said that’s their Memorial Day tradition – camping there and going to the fort to do the bunker tour and pay respects.
